About me as a hairdresser:

I have absolutely loved my experience as a trainee stylist so far.

I began my studies at Servilles Academy in June 2021. Here, I completed my level 3 Salon Support qualification. Despite the challenges that covid brought, I was able to continue studying full time at home and even got to use my brave family members as my at-home guinea pigs whilst we had no access to the salon.

Since graduating Services, I have began my hairdressing work life at G&T Hair. I am now a second year apprentice with HITO, completing most of my training here in the salon.

I have already gained so much knowledge and experience in the salon, and have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know our lovely clientele.

My fellow team members have welcomed me in with open arms and I feel so lucky to have such talented senior stylists guide me through my studies.

A bit about me personally:

I was born in Singapore and moved back to NZ with my family when I was 5. Since then, my life has been centered around this little Mission Bay block.

I live locally to the salon and attended Selwyn College.

When I’m not working, you can always find me around my friends and family, or somewhere close to the water in summer.

Why I want to be a hairdresser:

I’ve always known I wanted to do something creative.

After dipping my toes in hairdressing, I’ve come to find that not only can I explore my creative potential, but I also get to meet so many different characters and chat to people all day long. This has to be one of my favourite parts of my job.

Another perk to the job is getting to help someone feel good about themselves.

My advice for any aspiring hairdressers:

Go for it! All it takes is an enthusiastic learner with an open mind, and if you like chatting as much as I do, you’re already halfway there.

A little bit about me personally:

I’m a bit of a night owl, I prefer the cool moon to the sun. I enjoy digging my feet into the grass and being with nature, exploring old buildings and ancient history.

I’m Auckland born and grew up in Howick of which I still live around that area.

Where I have travelled:

From 2001 I lived and worked in London - I had so much fun! I have spent a lot of time in California as my Partner lives there, he and I enjoy travelling together as there’s so much to see.

Why I love being in the hair industry:

I was always torn between creativity and sciences. In college I enjoyed a few crazy hair colors and styles (it was the 80’s) and I was the first kid at my school to have a fire engine red gothic mohawk - again it was the 80s.

Hairdressing has let me be creative while keeping my interest in chemistry alive in one career, that teamed with awesome colleagues and clients has also helped with my confidence as I'm naturally very shy.

I’ve always had a passion for colour- from the bold and bright to the challenge of creating natural, multi-tonal and dimensional effects. Foils are definitely my friend and “hair whispering” although I can’t explain that one…

Accolades & Achievements:

I have given back to my hairdressing community and seen via training numerous people to become talented stylists.

In my career I have won a placed in various industry competitions and travelled around the North Island teaching colour and products knowledge for multiple product brands (inc KMS) for multiple salons.

Well that’s a bit about me I’ve done 35 years in the business, and I still Love it! Look forward to meeting you soon.

A little bit about me personally & where I come from:

I am a single mom to 3 beautiful children, and I was born and raised in West Auckland. For the last 4 years, I have been living in Mission Bay, but my heart belongs to Tauranga.

Travel & Interests:

I have a passion for exploring, trying new things and love experiencing places.

I have never travelled overseas but would love to create an experience overseas for my children to show them how big the world is and its diversity.

I like to get outdoors to experience nature as I love to hike around Auckland and visit various waterfall spots because connecting with nature is a big part of who I am as a parent and person.

Why I became a Hairstylist:

Hairdressing, becoming a hairstylist is a dream of mine and I’m determined to bring it to life. This passion started at 8 years old as a self-taught braider, evolving as I got older, I continued to create different styles, looks and colours.

Seeing how creative stylist moulded and made hair visions come alive opened my curiosity even more, urging me to become that person one day.

My drive is "If you can see it, you can do it."

I love movement in hairstyles using increased layers, face framing, texturizing and even softening the client’s hair so it softly moves into shape. Colour techniques to enhance the movement in the style brings the full-blown colour lover out of me watching or creating the blend and watching as they merge together effortlessly. Exciting career to be part of.

Achievements so far:

I successfully graduated level 3&4 hairdressing at cut above academy plus Level 3 makeup at Samala academy and now I am working as a full-time hairdresser while maintaining a healthy life for me and my three children.
