About me as a hairdresser:

I have absolutely loved my experience as a trainee stylist so far.

I began my studies at Servilles Academy in June 2021. Here, I completed my level 3 Salon Support qualification. Despite the challenges that covid brought, I was able to continue studying full time at home and even got to use my brave family members as my at-home guinea pigs whilst we had no access to the salon.

Since graduating Services, I have began my hairdressing work life at G&T Hair. I am now a second year apprentice with HITO, completing most of my training here in the salon.

I have already gained so much knowledge and experience in the salon, and have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know our lovely clientele.

My fellow team members have welcomed me in with open arms and I feel so lucky to have such talented senior stylists guide me through my studies.

A bit about me personally:

I was born in Singapore and moved back to NZ with my family when I was 5. Since then, my life has been centered around this little Mission Bay block.

I live locally to the salon and attended Selwyn College.

When I’m not working, you can always find me around my friends and family, or somewhere close to the water in summer.

Why I want to be a hairdresser:

I’ve always known I wanted to do something creative.

After dipping my toes in hairdressing, I’ve come to find that not only can I explore my creative potential, but I also get to meet so many different characters and chat to people all day long. This has to be one of my favourite parts of my job.

Another perk to the job is getting to help someone feel good about themselves.

My advice for any aspiring hairdressers:

Go for it! All it takes is an enthusiastic learner with an open mind, and if you like chatting as much as I do, you’re already halfway there.

About me as a hairdresser:

After I graduated from Cut Above Academy I worked in a couple of salons in the Auckland area before settling at G&T, my focus is to hone my craft and continue to do what I enjoy which is making every client feel beautiful.

Achievements so far:

Successfully graduating from Cut Above Academy with my levels 3 & 4 achievements in Hairdressing.

A little about me personally:

I moved to New Zealand when I was 19 years old,  I enjoy cooking, reading, spending time with my friends & family + I love watching videos of new hair trends.

I also thoroughly enjoy exploring new parts of Auckland.

Where were you born/grow up?

Cambodia

Why I became a hairdresser:

When I originally finished my education I tried my hand at being a barista but I had always had a keen interest in hair and all things that encompass it.

My Aunty was a hairdresser and I always enjoyed watching her with her clients when I was a little girl.

What is your advice for any aspiring hairdressers:

Do not give up if it’s what you love to do, even though it can be difficult at the beginning you will reach your goal if you keep on working on it!

Accolades and Achievements:

  • Stylist of the Year award winner

  • Multiple time highly commended recipient for the Stylist of the Year award

Where were you born? Where did you grow up?

I was born in Lahore, Pakistan, and moved to Auckland when I was about 12 years old.

I grew up in Blockhouse Bay and worked in Mission Bay so you could say I’ve always been a Bay girl and I have a great love for the Bays.

A little about me personally:

  • Family is everything to me.

  • I have a passion for fashion.

  • I dedicate every Sunday to my queen, My mum. Our day is spent exploring greater Auckland and dining at a new café every time.

  • I love coffee, and to me coffee is love 😊

  • I’ve enjoyed doing hair for the past 20+ years. Every day is a new beginning and it’s an industry I love as it is forever evolving.

Why I became a hairdresser:

To be honest, it was something I never wanted to pursue, but in saying that, looking back, it’s been the best career choice.

I’ve always had an artistic personality and doing hair feels like sculpting. It’s an art to me. It’s also that final moment of “love the look” on my client's faces when they love their hair. It fills my soul, to be in the moment when they instantly want to jump up & hug you!

What hairstyle or technique do I love at the moment:

I love all aspects of hairdressing but if asked to pick a few…

I’m a huge lover of an elegant pixie textured look because of the razor-edge cut that boosts volume and is easy to style.

I also love precision cutting for the blunt, sharp-edge look that it creates which gives you the illusion of fullness.
